Further updates for members as the curling season gathers pace.

Firstly players required for the Top Ten this Saturday 13th December, 2014. Please get in touch if you can play.

Edzell had a fine win in the Double Rinks Knockout last week beating Kirriemuir Men 16 to 7. Also a good draw in the Ferburn league 8 - 8 with Dun.

The club is sitting second place in the Agricar League having played 6 and won 6 games so far with games in hand on the current leaders.

Checkout the Curling Results page on the FIS website (www.forfarindoorsports.co.uk) for up to the minute results and league positions.

To our own leagues the current positions are: -

CLUB POINTS

7 members attended the annual Points competition at Forfar last night and the standard was very high with 6 of the 7 scoring more than 35 points for the 9 disciplines.

Congratulations to Andrew Ferguson who won the competition, 47 points with Colin and Mike sharing second place with 44. Colin won the ‘play off’ to take the Craik Trophy. It was  a very enjoyable evening.’ Andrew, Colin & Mike go forward to represent Edzell at the Province points competition and the Forfar Curling Centre Club Points Competition.

EDZELL v EVENIE WATER

3 rinks from both clubs turned up on Saturday afternoon to take part in the annual Curling & Bowls competition. Evenie Water had very competitive rinks out  and whilst Ron and Mike’s rinks stood up well to the opposition sadly Colin drew the short straw up against a very strong John Dowell rink. As a result we went into the bowling part of the challenge with some work to do. Unfortunately we did not manage to get the necessary shots to save the day so Evenie Water win for this year. It was a good social afternoon enjoyed by all.

Edzell CC played Dun CC for the Inglis Cup last night with Dun CC emerging the victors.

Unfortunately Colin's rink only comprised of 3 players with one no show therefore losing 6 shots at outset which as we all know leaves you on a hiding to nothing but well done to the rink for keeping battling away.

Mike's rink managed to squeeze out a one shot victory against Lyndsey Wood's rink

The smile on Ali Inglis face tells the pleasure Dun took in wrestling the trophy away from Edzell after a run of 6 years. Garry Wood is still celebrating over his drink as you can see.

A very friendly and enjoyable game between 2 local rivals.

Another fine win for Edzell CC last night this time in the North & South Esk Province Points Competition. Edzell emerged victorious from a large squad of Province players with I think almost every club in the Province represented. Brechin Castle CC were second placed.

Ron Caithness had the highest score of 32 after 6 disciplines with Mike Ferguson second on 31 points and Colin not far behind to make our combined score the highest of all the clubs.

A good year for the club so far with wins in nearly all our club games, new curlers brought on, a successful curlers court and a few social events along the way.

Let's keep it going right up to the end of the season with a good turn out at our prize giving & AGM and names are also being sought for a quiz team for the FCCC Quiz Night on 21st March, 2014 being held at the Ice Rink.

Finally a reminder that the Charity Shop is on right now so if you have any goods you can hand in please do so and if you can take a turn in the shop again please get in touch with Ron or Gordon. This is a valuable fund raiser for the club and it needs as many as possible to help when available.

Congratulations go to all the Edzell members who played in the RCCC Area 9 Top Ten competition at Forfar Curling Centre with the Club emerging victorious after 4 rounds of the competition. This is the second year in the row Edzell have lifted the trophy and a cheque for £100 from the sponsors Ferguson Oliver.

Unfortunately the number of clubs paying in the competition were down but none the less the Top Ten was enjoyed by all with the unique format keeping everyone on their toes.

Members present were Ron Caithness, Russell Brown, Bob Myles, Andrew Ferguson, Colin Inglis, Mike Ferguson, Murray Young, Robert Miller and Lynda Kemp. No picture I am afraid.
