Members Update

The following has been kindly submitted by Ron for the attention of all club members: -

The end of the season is fast approaching and we have not been making enough use of our Blog site to update our members of how the season is progressing. But it is never too late so I am giving you an update for some late night reading !!

I am aware that the committee has recently released correspondence to you particularly to bring to your notice the Charity Shop where we have been allocated the last 2 weeks of March. Saturday 16th March is not far away and it is essential that all our members support this fund raising activity. So please look out all your unwanted clothes, Bric-a-brac, books or whatever-------- Anything where we can make a pound !!!!!

On the curling front the main league is drawing to a close and after Ron's rinks first defeat of the season this has opened up opportunities for both Colin's rink and Bob Myles rink. Colin and Ron do battle tonight in what could well be the league decider !!

Ron has a weakened team as President Robert is still in recovery mode from the arduous RCCC tour to Canada. Mike has also returned full of enthusiasm and will no doubt have lots of ideas to install at Forfar Curling Centre.

Both Mike and Robert did remarkedly well in what can only be described as a gruelling tour ( I know cos I was there in 2003 !!) It was great to see them being part of the successfull team that won back the Strathcona Cup that the Canadians wrestled from us in 2008/9.

The Inglis Cup is also reaching a close finale and Russel's team is fighting it out with Stephen Ferguson/Steve Warden for the silverware. It looks like the final game of the league will be the decider.

We have had a poor season in terms of wins in our friendlies so it has to be the taking part that counts !!!

We very narrowly lost out to Brechin Castle last week by 1 shot overall with 2 winners and 2 narrow losers. The match was marred by an unfriendly act of Murray having a stone removed for allegedly fouling his stone over the hog line resulting in his double take out being replaced. This is not in the spirit of curling and we should never take a game to such extremes. On the same evening, Logan Milne called a foul upon himself for a double handled delivery and to me that epitmises the spirit in which the game should be played .Remember it is only a game and friendlies should be just friendlies and there must surely be some reflections on what I consider to be inappropriate actions !!

This season has been quite difficult and there have been various nights where members have not turned out and they have failed to find a substitute player. Apart from the cost this spoils the game so it must be impressed upon all members of the need to ensure that you take action early enough if you realise that you may have a problem.

One of our problems is the limited number of curlers in our club and over the past few years we have undoubtedly been unable to introduce enough new members to strengthen our club..... we must do something about this and it is important that all members try to introduce new faces to our club. Remember there are opportunities to 'Come and Try' and there is practice ice available at various times throughout the week.

Finally Sandra has also advised you of our Annual General Meeting and Prizegiving at Forfar Curling Centre on 19th April and I hope that you already have this date in your diary. The club needs your help, support and input to succeed so please come along.

Ron
